Rise of eReading: Are Books Going to Become an Endangered Species?

While I don’t think that e-readers are going to make books extinct anytime soon, I do notice that personally, I read more now that I have an e-reader. It becomes more of a distraction. Oh, I’m playing around on my iPad and there’s nothing new on Facebook… go read some more Game of Thrones.

On the converse side, for books that I truly love and want to devour over and over again, I want a paper copy. I’m listening to “Poser: My Life in 23 Yoga Poses” right now while I drive back and forth to San Francisco once a week. I’m only six chapters in, but I know it will be one of those books I want to read over and over and highlight and lend out to friends and highlight more. And yes, you can highlight on an e-reader. But that experience of curling up with paper that you love and know cover to cover is something that even non-die hard readers will never give up completely.
